The Morris canoes built in Veazie, Maine from the 1880's to 1920's are considered to be some of the finest wooden canoes ever built. No Morris forms survived the 1920 fire that destroyed the canoe factory. A customer commissioned me to recreate this lovely 15 ft canoe after finding an original 15 ft Morris at the Adirondack Museum. Just as in the other reproductions that we build, we go to great lengths to faithfully reproduce the canoe just as B. N. Morris would have built it. The Type 1 canoes had the short decks, spruce inside rails, and mahogany trim. The Type 3 model such as shown in the 17ft Morris model is finished off with extended decks, floor rack, keel and outside stems. Either canoe model can be finished off as a type 1 or type 3.
